Mid-Week Mix-ed Bag

  1. I love that Discovery Channel commercial as much as I hate Nickelback.
  2. I had a dream the other night where Woody Allen was The Riddler. But I think he was an impostor. Because Elvis Costello was also The Riddler...
  3. Apparently everyone on the 2 Dundas starts at the same time as me on Wednesdays. So congrats, 10:30am Wednesday class. You're On Notice. I was waiting for 25 minutes for the bus. Like, three "full" buses passed me. And by the time I got picked up at 10:30 there were like 30 people waiting at my stop. Trust me, it had nothing to do with the sudden snow squalls. This happens every Wednesday.
  4. KH and I have decided to start a socio-political literary/arts magazine. More on that later.

Just a quickie

My editor just left for the afternoon to cover the boat show so here I sit, one article in the bag and one article hanging from the tip of the cliff above the proverbial bag. I'm waiting for a source that was apparently going to call me back "any minute" about 30 minutes ago after I spent all week tracking down the person.

I was in at quarter to 9 this morning to do another phone interview. I need to close this set of brackets that is my Friday and go home. Or, pick up some groceries because whilst sitting here I jotted down a list. I wonder what other lists I can make... I do love making lists...

Mmm, mmm. The glamour of journalism. Smells good, right?

Backwards, into a wall of fire

I've come to two conclusions today.

Uno: I really hate it when people eat a cup of pudding or yogurt by sucking the substance out of the top rather than using a spoon. Either bring a spoon with you or bring a snack that doesn't require you eating like a small child.

Dos: The infamous and sexy Hobo Matt (guy on campus who looks like Matt Good in his Strange Days video who I always see and brings me good luck) must actually have graduated for I have not seen his perfectly scruffy face yet this school year. I wonder if he realized how many times he saw me since we made eye contact so many times (due to my staring). He opened a door for me once. I felt compelled to tell him he resembled Hobo Matt but my small slice of sanity advised me against it. I like to think of his as "the one who got away."

How to Procrastinate

This is what my day has consisted of thus far:
  1. Drink tea or coffee
  2. Go pee
  3. YouTube the Viva La Vida video
  4. Stare out my window
  5. Check my email
  6. Write a couple sentences
On endless repeat.

Now, some people might think that you can only do any of the first five things so many times, but I think today I have proudly proved those people wrong.

How has your day been?

It's Friday?!

  1. This guy has the right idea. I'd stay in an airport too if I was getting free stuff!
  2. It's been confirmed, the great Hawking has accepted the position of Distinguished Research Chair from the Perimeter Institute and makes his first visit this summer! My dad is going to be so psyched.
  3. Local young women have taken a cue from Kevin and started booby-trapping their homes as the London Sleep-Watcher continues to creep around the city. It turned into a major topic of discussion in my class this morning because "Oh my god, he wears all black?!" Where's that scary old dude with the shovel when you need him?
  4. Join JM and I later as we will inevitabley get drunk and simu-blog about the rockin Geminis tonight! Yes, you heard correctly, Jason Priestley is hosting. Thankfully it's only an hour. Damn you AE Journalism!

Who knew November 2008 would be so epic? And it's not over yet...

From Barack to Bob

This may be the most historically epic week I have ever experienced.

Last Tuesday I stood in my campus restaurant and bar The Wave with 350 of my fellow students and watched Barack Obama become the 44th President of the United States.

Tonight I stood in the fifth row at the John Labatt Centre with Sam, Stuart, and Ted and watched Bob Dylan perform.

I am overwhelmed by this sudden onslaught of amazing.

The average age at the concert was probably 45-50. The rows on the floor were close together and went right up to the stage so we were really close. Dylan was on tonight. He was smiling, laughing, kicking his feet and wiggling his shoulders around. Lots of glorious harmonica and he played guitar in one song, something he rarely does anymore. After a thank-you he even joked with the crowd while introducing his band at the end of the show.  "Am I unintelligible? C'mon, be honest!"

I love you Bob Dylan.

As of now, I...

  1. Plan on being a shiny Soviet ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) for Halloween.  I'm going to need a silver onesie...
  2. Am creeped out by, and jealous of, the little old white-haired couple I passed on my way home who were puttering along holding hands and wearing matching "his" and "hers" red ski jackets and khaki pants.
  3. Feel the tingling of a new obsession with The Weathermen (A former radical American left group born out of Students for a Democratic Society at the 1969 SDS convention in Chicago... Declared war on the US government and was responsible for a series of bombings of federal buildings... You know, the group Bill Ayers was a part of?)  Its name came from the line in Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues "you don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"  Check out the documentary The Weather Underground and riddle me this: Where's the revolution now?
